Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study

Religious television programs have the potential to influence the moral and ethical behavior of individuals in society. In Fufore Local Government Area (LGA) of Adamawa State, religious television channels are widely viewed, and their impact on ethical behavior is significant. This study examines the effectiveness of religious television in promoting ethical behavior among the people of Fufore LGA, focusing on how religious teachings broadcasted on TV can influence moral values and ethical conduct.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

Despite the widespread availability of religious television channels, there is limited research on their effectiveness in promoting ethical behavior, particularly in rural areas like Fufore LGA. This study seeks to assess how religious television programs have influenced the ethical behavior of the community and whether these programs contribute to the promotion of moral values in Fufore LGA.

1.3 Objectives of the Study

1. To assess the effectiveness of religious television in promoting ethical behavior in Fufore LGA.

1.5 Research Hypotheses

3. There are significant challenges in using religious television to promote ethical behavior in Fufore LGA.

1.6 Significance of the Study

This study will provide insights into the role of religious television in promoting ethical behavior, helping to design more effective religious media campaigns and interventions in Fufore LGA. The findings will be useful for religious organizations, media practitioners, and policymakers.

1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study

The study is limited to Fufore LGA and focuses on the role of religious television in promoting ethical behavior. It does not cover other forms of media or regions outside the study area.

1.8 Operational Definition of Terms

1. Ethical Behavior: Conduct that is in accordance with accepted moral principles, such as honesty, integrity, and respect for others.

2. Religious Television: Television channels or programs that focus on religious teachings, values, and principles.

3. Moral Values: The beliefs and principles that guide individuals' behavior and decision-making based on what is considered right or wrong.
